Bluebird parents perch close to a full nest on a cherry branch in the central block of this new Dresden design by Karel. Wool appliqué birds, and leaves are combined with traditional appliqué for a pleasing result. Small 9-patch blocks have been used along with a triple border sashing to frame the four Dresden blocks surrounding the birds. Beautiful hand quilting is shown off in the surrounding tan triangles of the quilt.

A hanging sleeve along with Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.

    Sawtooth stars  with cornerstone blocks have been set on point to create this patriotic small quilt. Notice the gold hand-appliqué stars along with Old Glory that have been used around the outside set-in triangles. The finishing touch is the red “thank you” blocks in each corner making this a wonderful quilt for someone who has served our country. Outside red corner squares have the words “Old Glory” written on it. The whimsical striped binding gives it an extra flair and echos all the colors in the center of the quilt. Tulips, buds and flowers are combined in a pleasing arrangement with corner appliqué blocks radiating out from the center design.  The ribbon star blocks make a bold statement as they frame the central wreath and next comes a checkerboard border just to set it all off.  Karel chose to use civil war reproduction quilts because the tiny prints lend themselves so well to the small appliqué pieces.  The variety of prints include stripes, florals and geometrics that add extra interest to the design.  As you can see from the border, the hand-quilting is beautiful as well.  A hanging sleeve as well as Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.
