    Five Dresden plates set on point are the focal point of this fine traditional quilt. The Dresden plates are machine pieced and then hand appliquéd to the background squares. They are  then framed by Karel’s signature triple border and corner squares. Cross-hatching has been hand-quilted on the set-in triangles to create a beautiful diamond design. Tulips, buds and flowers are combined in a pleasing arrangement with corner appliqué blocks radiating out from the center design.  The ribbon star blocks make a bold statement as they frame the central wreath and next comes a checkerboard border just to set it all off.  Karel chose to use civil war reproduction quilts because the tiny prints lend themselves so well to the small appliqué pieces.  The variety of prints include stripes, florals and geometrics that add extra interest to the design.  As you can see from the border, the hand-quilting is beautiful as well.  A hanging sleeve as well as Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.
