This delightful quilt came about as a result of Karel’s love of Dresden Plates, and stars and  including many fabrics to create a scrappy look.   The floral wreath in the center has been surrounded with appliquéd  Dresden Plates and pieced 8-pointed stars which are a charming frame for a center appliqué flower. For added interest, Karel chose to use different fabrics in the sashing surrounding the blocks for a scrappy look.  Note the different background fabrics used in the blocks as well. A green print was chosen for the outer border to echo the color of leaves in nature. The piecing is precise and the appliqué and hand-quilting are  beautiful in this special quilt.

A hanging sleeve along with Karel’s signature patch is included on the back.

    Here is a quilt just perfect for a smaller space in your home.   The log cabin pattern has always been a favorite of Karel’s because there is no end to the ways you can lay out the blocks.     Late summer is Karel’s favorite time of the year and was the inspiration for this fun small quilt.  A sunflower bud and sunflower have been created using the Dresden plate pattern, an appliquéd wool center with french knots and prairie points were added  on the flower.  A bumble bee flies happily around the flower as orange pumpkins sit underneath. The black crow perched on the pumpkin is another detail using wool appliqué.  A combination of machine pieced churn dash and 9-patches blocks were chosen to complete this quilt.  The hand appliqué and quilting  beautifully enhance the design as well.

    A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature patch  are included on the back.

    The pineapple has long been a symbol of hospitality and is the central design in this  warm, small quilt.  The  traditional log cabin pattern has always been a favorite of Karel’s and the clever placement of light and dark logs creates a pleasing background for the primitive stars that surround the pineapple.  Small civil war prints have been used in the 1″ wide logs for a cozy, country feel.  The more fabrics in a quilt the better Karel likes it and this one was fun to sew. The hand quilting is especially fine along with precise appliqué  making this quilt a lovely addition to any home.
