When the 8-pointed star block and the snowball block are artfully arranged together it creates a pleasing diagonal frame for the appliqué in this original design by Karel.  A simple but sweet flower vase is at the center and then layered appliqué flowers are centered in the surrounding blocks. So many charming blue and tan fabrics were used in the piecing of this quilt, including the lovely paisley border fabric.  It’s interesting that 8-pointed stars are almost hidden until you look for them.  Attention to detail and workmanship are evident in this special quilt.

A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature sleeve are included on the back of the quilt.

Tulips, buds and flowers are combined in a pleasing arrangement with corner appliqué bocks radiating out from the center design.  The ribbon star blocks make a bold statement as they frame the central wreath and next comes a checkerboard border just to set it all off.  Karel chose to use civil war reproduction quilts because the tiny prints lend themselves so well to the small appliqué pieces.  The variety of prints include stripes, florals and geometrics that add extra interest to the design.  As you can see from the border, the hand-quilting is beautiful as well.  A hanging sleeve as well as Karel's signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.
  • The pineapple has long been a symbol of hospitality and is the central design in this  warm, small quilt.  The  traditional log cabin pattern has always been a favorite of Karel's and the clever placement of light and dark logs creates a pleasing background for the primitive stars that surround the pineapple.  Small civil war prints have been used in the 1" wide logs for a cozy, country feel.  The more fabrics in a quilt the better Karel likes it and this one was fun to sew. The hand quilting is especially fine along with precise appliqué  making this quilt a lovely addition to any home. A hanging sleeve and Karel's signature tag are included on the back.
