Here is one of Karel’s classic original designs, the trumpet flower,  and it has always been a customer favorite.  Winding trumpet flowers, vines and leaves are surrounded by 5 1/2″ log cabin blocks and primitive stars in each of the 4 corners.  Multi colored fabrics have been used in warm, country colors that give it a “scrappy” look as well.  Karel is known for incorporating many different fabric prints in her designs along with hand quilting and appliqué that are expertly done.

A hanging sleeve along with Karel’s signature tag are included on the back.

Description

Karel designed this quilt a number of years ago and it is one of her all time favorite patterns.  Winding trumpet flowers and vines are surrounded by log cabin blocks with primitive stars in each corner.  Multi colored fabrics have been used for a “scrappy” effect adding to the primitive look.   The hand-quilting and applique are exquisite on this charming small quilt.

A hanging sleeve is included on the back along with Karel’s signature patch.

    An enchanting  flower garden featuring 5 zinnias is the theme of this original small quilt by Karel. The design was inspired by a memory of the colorful, long row of Zinnias that her Grandma planted in her garden each summer.  It features 5 Dresden plates in 3 different sizes with wool for each of their centers.  Special attention to detail went into the hand embroidery in each flower with handmade stems and leaves in green plaids and florals.  Buds, a butterfly and a bumble bee  play among friendship stars in the neutral background blocks and a tan floral border was chosen to frame the quilt perfectly and contrasts with the multi colored inner border.

    A whimsical pumpkin with leaves and primitive stars set on circles are in the center of log cabin blocks in this warm fall quilt.  The traditonal log cabin pattern has always been a favorite of Karel’s and the clever placement of light and dark logs create a pleasing background for the appliqué.  Small 1″ logs have been used and give opportunity for many earth tone fabrics to be used which create a nice scrappy effect.  The floral border print is a perfect frame to finish the quilt and the appliqué and hand quilting are beautifully done in this fun quilt.

    Five Dresden plates set on point are at the center of this fine, traditional quilt.  The Dresden plates are machine pieced and then hand appliquéd to the background squares.  They are framed by Karel’s signature triple border and corner squares.  Cross-hatching has been  hand quilted on the set-in triangles to create a beautiful diamond design.  Civil war reproduction fabrics were carefully selected to create a vintage scrappy feel on this piece.
