Charming snowmen seem to be waving hello in Karel’s original design, Patchwork Snowman, a quilt that can be displayed from December right through till spring.  The color palette includes tan, gray and blue with backgrounds of ivory and cream that create a primitive feel to the quilt.  The hand appliqué is beautiful especially in the cutouts on the snowflake block.  The carefully pieced blocks include the friendship star, pinwheel, churn dash, Ohio star, log cabin and cornerstone with hourglass and sawtooth borders to add interest. A dark navy border features tiny stars and is a fitting frame to complete the look.

A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of this quilt.

    Flowers and friendship stars go hand in hand in this original design by Karel.  Her triple signature border and corner squares surround the central floral design.  The floral fabric in the border has a vintage feel with small bouquets and is contrasted by the green checked inner border she used. A variation of the log cabin block works nicely in the corners against the stars and appliqué flowers.  Precise hand-quilting creates a diamond design in each of the triangles that surround the center, along with beautiful appliqué  and the color scheme includes, tan, red, green, and black.

Hand appliquéd hollyhocks, flowers, a goldfinch and pumpkins are surrounded with blocks including the friendship star, pinwheel, Ohio star and churn dash to name a few.     A whimsical pumpkin with leaves and primitive stars set on circles are in the center of log cabin blocks in this warm fall quilt.  The traditonal log cabin pattern has always been a favorite of Karel’s and the clever placement of light and dark logs create a pleasing background for the appliqué.  Small 1″ logs have been used and give opportunity for many earth tone fabrics to be used which create a nice scrappy effect.  The floral border print is a perfect frame to finish the quilt and the appliqué and hand quilting are beautifully done in this fun quilt.
