This stunning new quilt was inspired by Karel’s favorite time of the year, late summer, and all the beauty of flowers in her yard. From sunflowers to zinnias, warm hues in golds, reds, oranges and plums play well together. The flowers are wool and are embellished with embroidery stitching with a Dresden plate at the very center. To create added interest, she used a number of different neutral prints for the center background square. The quilt is bordered in a green printed fabric to symbolize the color of leaves and how well this color goes with all the colors in nature. A hanging sleeve along with Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.

Half square triangles, hour glass and checkerboards  add interest to this quilt.  Stars and strips are repeated both in appliqué and fabrics throughout the design. Don’t miss the pinwheel block in the center that features a small handmade yo yo and button. The small “Thank You” block right under the heart makes this a special gift for someone who has served our country.  A fun pieced inner border and red star outside border frame the whole quilt for a nice finish.  Quilting and appliqué are expertly done as well.

    Star flowers and berries seem to spring out of a red heart in the center block of Karel’s original design called Star Love. Her signature triple border and corner squares nicely frame the block.  Take note of the fine hand quilting in the triangles that form a diamond design to showcase the center and also the beautifully done hand appliqué throughout.  The star block called “Sarah’s Choice” and a variation on log cabin blocks flank each side of the star and berries border.  Karel enjoys mixing many different fabrics in her quilts to give them a “scrappy” look and this quilt is a great example of that.  A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.
