A classic red and blue color palette was chosen for this charming original Strarberry design.  Using a pieced background log cabin blocks for the center adds additional interest.  Stars and berries with a central flower are beautifully appliquéd along with precise piecing on the log cabin blocks and 54-40 or fight blocks.  Hand-quilted diamonds called cross-hatching have been quilted on the tan leaf background triangles that surround the center blocks.  All elements of this design come together in such a delightful way on this classic quilt.

A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.

    Five Dresden Plates set on point are the focus of this fine traditional quilt.  The Dresden Plates are machine pieced and then hand-appliqued to each of the background squares.  They are then surrounded by Karel’s signature triple borders with charming paisley corner squares.  Note the plaid fabric that was used for the backgrounds, and the cross-hatching that is hand quilted in the set in triangles that surround the blocks.  A variety of prints create interesting plates and give a “scrappy” look to them.     A whimsical pumpkin with leaves and primitive stars set on circles are in the center of log cabin blocks in this warm fall quilt.  The traditonal log cabin pattern has always been a favorite of Karel’s and the clever placement of light and dark logs create a pleasing background for the appliqué.  Small 1″ logs have been used and give opportunity for many earth tone fabrics to be used which create a nice scrappy effect.  The floral border print is a perfect frame to finish the quilt and the appliqué and hand quilting are beautifully done in this fun quilt.

    The classic Whig Rose appliqué block has been used along with the 8-pointed star block in this design.  The clever placement of light and dark fabrics have created a unique, secondary border design that flows around the blocks .  A lovely floral design is hand-quilted in the other 4 blocks for contrast.  New England red, hunter green, mustard and navy with a touch of black make up this classic color scheme and look wonderful next to the tan and ivory background squares.  The hand quilting is tiny and precise and the appliqué is also beautifully done.
