Here is one of Karel’s classic original designs, the Trumpet Flower, and it has always been a customer favorite.  Winding trumpet flowers, vines and leaves are surrounded by 5″ log cabin blocks and primitive stars in each of the 4 corners.  Multi colored fabrics have been used in warm country colors that give it a charming “scrappy ” look as well.  Karel is known for incorporating many different fabric prints in her designs along with hand quilting and appliqué which are all expertly done.

A hanging sleeve along with Karel’s signature patch have been included on the back of the quilt.

    The classic Whig Rose appliqué block has been used along with the 8-pointed star block in this design.  The clever placement of light and dark fabrics have created a unique, secondary border design that flows around the blocks .  A lovely floral design is hand-quilted in the other 4 blocks for contrast.  New England red, hunter green, mustard and navy with a touch of black make up this classic color scheme and look wonderful next to the tan and ivory background squares.  The hand quilting is tiny and precise and the appliqué is also beautifully done.     A graceful floral wreath is the focal point of this stunning small quilt. Tulips, buds and flowers are combined in a pleasing arrangement with corner appliqué blocks radiating out from the center design.  The ribbon star blocks make a bold statement as they frame the central wreath and next comes a checkerboard border just to set it all off.  Karel chose to use civil war reproduction quilts because the tiny prints lend themselves so well to the small appliqué pieces.  The variety of prints include stripes, florals and geometrics that add extra interest to the design.  As you can see from the border, the hand-quilting is beautiful as well.  A hanging sleeve as well as Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.

    Here is a quilt just perfect for a smaller space in your home. The log cabin pattern has always been a favorite of Karel’s because there is no end to the ways you can lay out the blocks.  In this quilt the light logs create a great background for the appliqué pumpkins with their vines and leaves while the dark logs frame them perfectly!  1″ logs have been used to create a scrappy feel and give the opportunity for many earth tone fabrics to be used.  The whimsical pumpkin fabric in the border was a great choice to finish it all off and the hand quilting and appliqué in this quilt are just beautiful!
