Whimsical winter birds and pine boughs are the theme of this charming Log Cabin quilt. Enjoy it all winter long as many of the fabrics are winter themed with pine needles and berries to name a few. Look closely at the details in the cardinal and chickadee which are made of wool appliqué with hand embroidered details. Pinecones on pine beaches surround the center block and are hand embroidered as well. The exquisite hand quilting can be seen especially well in the quilt’s border.
A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature patch are included on the back.

    Log cabin blocks with artfully arranged lights and darks help create the backdrop for this lovely quilt.  A charming little basket of flowers take center stage with butterflies that are flying all around the center.     The classic Whig Rose appliqué block has been used along with the 8-pointed star block in this design.  The clever placement of light and dark fabrics have created a unique, secondary border design that flows around the blocks .  A lovely floral design is hand-quilted in the other 4 blocks for contrast.  New England red, hunter green, mustard and navy with a touch of black make up this classic color scheme and look wonderful next to the tan and ivory background squares.  The hand quilting is tiny and precise and the appliqué is also beautifully done. A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature patch are included on the back.

Hand appliquéd hollyhocks, flowers, a goldfinch and pumpkins are surrounded with blocks including the friendship star, pinwheel, Ohio star and churn dash to name a few. Half square triangles and hour glass blocks add to it’s charm as well.  The warm floral border fabric compliments the quilt as the flowers and leaves gently wind their way around the quilt and hand quilting is beautiful.
