Small Quilts

The Dresden Plate pattern is a beloved favorite among quilt lovers and it’s a great way to use up those scraps that quilters always have too many of. Karel chose a basket of flowers and used a combination of wool appliqué with traditional appliqué on the central block. The triple border with small 9-patches in each of the corners highlights each block beautifully. There’s plenty of hand-quilting to be seen in the surrounding background triangles. A blue border fabric with tiny flowers in it completes the look.

This delightful quilt came about as a result of Karel’s love of Dresden Plates, and star blocks. The floral wreath in the center has been surrounded with appliquéd Dresden Plates and 8-pointed stars with a flower in the center. For added interest Karel chose to use different fabrics in the sashing surrounding the blocks for a scrappy look. The red border chosen frames the blocks just right.The hand work on this quilt is expertly done from the hand applique to the hand quilting.

The classic Whig Rose appliqué design has been used along with the 8-pointed star block in this design. The clever placement of light and dark fabrics have created a unique secondary diagonal design. The additional appliqué flowers in the center blocks are a sweet accent too. Done in classic colors with beautiful hand-quilting makes this a lovely quilt for your home.

This Christmas themed Sampler is Karel’s 2nd version of the Christmas favorite. Using some of her favorite Christmas blocks, such as a Cardinal, Christmas tree, little red truck hauling a tree and Father Christmas pulling a tree on his sled are featured among pieced blocks. Karel’s love of Christmas fabrics is worth taking a closer look at in this festive quilt. Candy canes amidst holly leaves on a deep red background border the quilt and show off tiny hand quilted stitches.

A Perky red Cardinal is at the center of this log cabin Christmas quilt. The log cabin blocks have been artfully arranged using lights and darks to create the backdrop for this festive holiday piece. Hand appliquéd pinecones and hand embroidered pine needles add to the seasonal felling as well. Look closely at all the fun fabrics that Karel incorporates to create the logs for the blocks. Small hand quilted stitches enhance the beauty of this original design and holly berries along with pinecones on the border fabric finish the quilt beautifully.

This delightful scrappy star quilt is ready to cuddle up in just in time for cooler weather. Charming wonky stars that include tiny 9-patches in each star center are made out of many different fabrics that all mix together nicely. The use of light and dark neutral squares continue the scrappy theme. The sofa throw sized quilt is ready to be folded across the foot of your bed, draped across a chair, bench or across the back of your sofa. The piecing is precise and the hand quilting is beautiful in this warm, inviting scrap quilt.

Five Dresden plates, set on point are featured in this fine, traditional quilt. The Dresden plates are machine pieced and then hand appliquéd onto the background squares. They are surrounded by Karel’s signature triple borders and corner squares as the sashing. Cross-hatching has been hand quilted on the set in triangles to create a small diamond pattern. Many different fabric make up the petals in each Dresden plate for a “scrappy” look. A small floral print in a soft green was used to create a perfect frame for all the colors.
