  • Grandpa’s Farm

    This original design was inspired by wonderful memories of summer days spent on Grandpa’s farms as a little girl.  Using a Sawtooth star block to frame the the whimsical farm animals is a nice design choice.  The animals and accent elements of the barn have each been done with wool appliqué.  From the plump pig to the chick that is newly hatched, the attention to detail make this a very special quilt.  Karel enjoys combining both wool and cotton fabrics which adds dimension and interest to this quilt.

    A hanging sleeve along with Karel’s signature patch have been included on the back.

    Flowers and Friendship star blocks go hand in hand in Garden Path, another original design by Karel.  The pleasing color scheme has an Americana feel without the use of stars & stripe design so it’s good for use all year round.  The central floral design is surrounded by Karel’s signature triple borders and corner blocks set on point.  Precise hand-quilted diamonds set off the set-in background triangles.  Beautiful fabrics were selected in this crisp red and blue quilt.

    Karel found this pattern years ago and has found it to be the perfect setting for the appliqué in this design.  The baby elephant has been hand appliqué with hand embroidered tail and eyes.  Gray, white and yellow are a lovely color scheme perfect for a new baby nursery. The hand appliqué work on the hearts and baby elephant have been expertly done with embroidered eyes and tail.  A variety of prints have been used to achieve the scrappy look of this piece with geometrics, florals and polka dots to name a few.  Hand quilting is beautifully done in this charming quilt.

    A hanging tag and Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.

Whimsical cars and a pick up truck done in cheerful colors with embroidered details appear to be driving around the bus. The pattern features bright colored squares which nicely frame the appliqué blocks as well. The border fabric echoes the cars and buses as children on bikes and jumping rope ride around the border.     When the 8-pointed star block and the snowball block are artfully arranged together it creates a pleasing diagonal frame for the appliqué in this original design by Karel.  A simple but sweet flower vase is at the center and then layered appliqué flowers are centered in the surrounding blocks. So many charming blue and tan fabrics were used in the piecing of this quilt, including the lovely paisley border fabric.  It’s interesting that 8-pointed stars are almost hidden until you look for them.  Attention to detail and workmanship are evident in this special quilt.

    The beautiful blue and tan paisley fabric in the border were the inspiration for the color palette of this Starberry quilt.  The use of neutral log cabin blocks using cream and tan fabrics as the background for the center design were a nice choice.  A woven tan fabric used as the background for the stars and berries creates added visual interest paired next to the 54-40 or fight star blocks as Log cabin blocks finish out the corners. The beautiful hand-quilting really shows up well in the small diamonds called cross-hatching on the background triangles.
