Five Dresden Plates set on point are the focus of this fine traditional quilt.  The Dresden Plates are machine pieced and then hand-appliqued to each of the background squares.  They are then surrounded by Karel’s signature triple borders with charming paisley corner squares.  Note the plaid fabric that was used for the backgrounds, and the cross-hatching that is hand quilted in the set in triangles that surround the blocks.  A variety of prints create interesting plates and give a “scrappy” look to them. A red and blue stripe fabric is the perfect binding to finish this patriotic piece.

A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.

    The Leymone star also known as the 8-pointed stars really shine in this scrappy sofa throw quilt. A 9-patch block has been used for its simplicity to compliment the star blocks. You can tell by lookin closely at the stars, Karel took her time to make sure each one was pieced with precision. The flower quilting design that was used in the 9-patch block is nice detail.     A classic red and blue color palette was chosen for this charming original Strarberry design.  Using a pieced background log cabin blocks for the center adds additional interest.  Stars and berries with a central flower are beautifully appliquéd along with precise piecing on the log cabin blocks and 54-40 or fight blocks.  Hand-quilted diamonds called cross-hatching have been quilted on the tan leaf background triangles that surround the center blocks.  All elements of this design come together in such a delightful way on this classic quilt.

Tulips, buds and flowers are combined in a pleasing arrangement with corner appliqué blocks radiating out from the center design.  The ribbon star blocks make a bold statement as they frame the central wreath and next comes a checkerboard border just to set it all off.  Karel chose to use civil war reproduction quilts because the tiny prints lend themselves so well to the small appliqué pieces.  The variety of prints include stripes, florals and geometrics that add extra interest to the design.  As you can see from the border, the hand-quilting is beautiful as well.  A hanging sleeve as well as Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.
