This original design was inspired by wonderful memories of summer days spent on Grandpa’s farms as a little girl.  Using a Sawtooth star block to frame the the whimsical farm animals is a nice design choice.  The animals and accent elements of the barn have each been done with wool appliqué.  From the plump pig to the chick that is newly hatched, the attention to detail make this a very special quilt.  Karel enjoys combining both wool and cotton fabrics which adds dimension and interest to this quilt.

A hanging sleeve along with Karel’s signature patch have been included on the back.

    The classic Whig Rose appliqué block has been used along with the 8-pointed star block in this design.  The clever placement of light and dark fabrics have created a unique, secondary border design that flows around the blocks .  A lovely floral design is hand-quilted in the other 4 blocks for contrast.  New England red, hunter green, mustard and navy with a touch of black make up this classic color scheme and look wonderful next to the tan and ivory background squares.  The hand quilting is tiny and precise and the appliqué is also beautifully done.     Sawtooth stars  with cornerstone blocks have been set on point to create this patriotic small quilt. Notice the gold hand-appliqué stars along with Old Glory that have been used around the outside set-in triangles. The finishing touch is the red “thank you” blocks in each corner making this a wonderful quilt for someone who has served our country. Outside red corner squares have the words “Old Glory” written on it. The whimsical striped binding gives it an extra flair and echos all the colors in the center of the quilt. Thrown over a chair, on the back of your couch or hung on the wall this fine piece will defiantly add  Americana feel to your home.  Don’t miss the fine hand-quilting which can especially be seen in the navy border.  A hanging sleeve and signature tag are included on the back of the quilt.

    A whimsical pumpkin with leaves and primitive stars set on circles are in the center of log cabin blocks in this warm fall quilt.  The traditonal log cabin pattern has always been a favorite of Karel’s and the clever placement of light and dark logs create a pleasing background for the appliqué.  Small 1″ logs have been used and give opportunity for many earth tone fabrics to be used which create a nice scrappy effect.  The floral border print is a perfect frame to finish the quilt and the appliqué and hand quilting are beautifully done in this fun quilt.
