This Christmas themed sampler quilt is full of charm with the combination of pieced  and appliqué blocks. In this original design by Karel she has chosen some of her favorite things about Christmas.  Poinsettias, Holly boughs, a Christmas tree and a snappy red cardinal are blended with pieced blocks including the friendship star and pinwheel.  Notice that the churn dash block frames a sweet chickadee in a pine tree. Karel’s choice of fabrics is worth taking a closer look at in this festive quilt.  The exceptional hand quilting shows up really well in the red border featuring candy canes and holly leaves with a striped binding as the perfect finish.

A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature tag are included on the bag of the quilt.

    The classic Whig Rose appliqué block has been used along with the 8-pointed star block in this design.  The clever placement of light and dark fabrics have created a unique, secondary border design that flows around the blocks .  A lovely floral design is hand-quilted in the other 4 blocks for contrast.  New England red, hunter green, mustard and navy with a touch of black make up this classic color scheme and look wonderful next to the tan and ivory background squares.  The hand quilting is tiny and precise and the appliqué is also beautifully done.     A whimsical pumpkin with leaves and primitive stars set on circles are in the center of log cabin blocks in this warm fall quilt.  The traditonal log cabin pattern has always been a favorite of Karel’s and the clever placement of light and dark logs create a pleasing background for the appliqué.  Small 1″ logs have been used and give opportunity for many earth tone fabrics to be used which create a nice scrappy effect.  The floral border print is a perfect frame to finish the quilt and the appliqué and hand quilting are beautifully done in this fun quilt.

    Do you love pinwheels?  Here’s a great original design featuring pinwheels that use 8 different fabrics in them! Both the pinwheel and cornerstone blocks are set on point and the diamonds frame each pinwheel creating a great secondary design. Karel used a lighter background for the pinwheels and a small circle print for the other blocks to help the pinwheels stand apart.  Sweet little tulips sit in each corner while flowers fill in the triangle blocks around the edge.  The quality of the hand appliqué and quilting are easy to observe in this charming small quilt and the floral border is the prefect finish.  A hanging sleeve and Karel”s signature tag are included on the back.
