Patchwork Quilts

It is hard to imagine that patchwork quilts could be so wondrously varied in design and coloring as they are here in Lancaster. While some traditional Amish designs are made to be reproductions of 18th and 19th Century quilts, most quilts are created with goal of being more lovely than what was made before. Consequently there are many differing and unique renditions of even the most traditional patchwork patterns.

Many of the quilts shown here are marked indicating that they are “available now” for shipment –we are usually able to ship quilts so marked no later than the next business day. Other quilts shown have been sold, but often we are able to find a very similar well-made quilt that can be shipped quickly. Alternatively we can arrange for a similar quilt to be custom made.

Take your time looking through our galleries, there is a lot to see. We try to show respects for the quilts and the quilters by properly showing them.

  • An awesome collection of striking batik fabrics. It’s flame design blends colors about as good as you can get them. They are color fast cotton prints in teals to blues to creams selected by C Jean Horst, Lancaster’s renowned quilt designer. Note the care taken with the complicated piecing, and the fantastic border fabrics. Signed by C Jean Horst.
  • Wow! A classic design with curved piecing made with a wonderful collection of printed red cotton fabrics made to look like a vintage quilt – especially selected by C Jean Horst (Lancaster’s renowned quilt designer). This quilt is even more beautiful than the photographs! Signed by C Jean Horst. Well quilted and pieced by a local Amish woman. This quilt is symmetric and may be used sideways on a king size bed.
  • The Dutchmans Puzzle blocks are made from flying-geese units that are sewn together in pairs. The points rotate around the blocks, creating lots of motion in the quilt top. Since each pair of flying-geese units requires only one light and one dark fabric, the quilt provides an opportunity to use various amounts of many interesting 100% cotton fabrics. It makes a visually magnificent and colorful but quaint looking quilt. Beautiful and vintage!! A new pattern for us to make. Love it !
  • This is a special bargello quilt that I designed on my husbands first year anniversary from having an open heart surgery. This heartbeat quilt shows an EKG that reminds me of how fortunate I am every time I look at it. It is another of C Jean Horst’s bargello quilts made with beautiful batik fabrics which she loves to work with. The border is especially interesting and has an added beauty to it by the combination of all the 25 fabrics used.
  • Two super, very sharp designs. One block is the very popular Log Cabin block. The other block is a beautiful star block. The combination is especially nice and the fabrics are selected by C Jean Horst, Lancaster’s well know quilt designer. We love the classic mix of Navy and Burgundy colors.   • A beautiful combination of Blue, Green and Yellow colors. What great fabric selections. The Log Cabin and Lone Star design. Note the careful piecing and nice quilting. The background fabric is a yellow / cream tone on tone cotton print. Made in Lancaster by a Mennonite woman and the quilting was done by a Amish women. The solid blue on this quilt is more subdued than shown in pictures.

Featured on this quilt are rich colored fabrics of olive green, tan, black with brown centers on the log cabin patch. Very nicely pieced and beautifully hand quilted by an Amish woman in her home.

This quilt makes any bed a spectacular view of 20 different 100% cotton batik print fabrics that work well together like a charm. Imagine piecing this pattern. It is one of those “think twice and cut once” kind of quilt patterns. Magnificent while charming and appealing to the eye. We love this look over the pillow throw. Just a beauty on the bed!

This elegant quilt has fabrics with a soft gold shimmer. Notice the fine quilting with the feather design around the stars points. Fabrics chosen by a local Mennonite woman and quilted by an Amish woman in her home. It was difficult to bring out the true rich colors of this quilt in the photos.
