Karel’s Kreations

This delightful quilt came about as a result of Karel’s love of Dresden Plates, and star blocks. The floral wreath in the center has been surrounded with appliquéd Dresden Plates and 8-pointed stars with a flower in the center. For added interest Karel chose to use different fabrics in the sashing surrounding the blocks for a scrappy look. The red border chosen frames the blocks just right.The hand work on this quilt is expertly done from the hand applique to the hand quilting.

The Lemoyne star or 8-pointed star really shines in this scrappy sofa throw quilt. A 9-patch block has been used for it’s simplicity against the star blocks and you can tell by looking at the star points that Karel took her time to make sure each one was pieced accurately. The addition of the circular quilting in the center of the 9-patch helps to soften the pattern. The floral background fabric with the blue background completes the look. The versatility of a sofa throw size means you can throw it over a chair, the back of a sofa or fold it across the foot of the bed.

A Perky red Cardinal is at the center of this log cabin Christmas quilt. The log cabin blocks have been artfully arranged using lights and darks to create the backdrop for this festive holiday piece. Hand appliquéd pinecones and hand embroidered pine needles add to the seasonal felling as well. Look closely at all the fun fabrics that Karel incorporates to create the logs for the blocks. Small hand quilted stitches enhance the beauty of this original design and holly berries along with pinecones on the border fabric finish the quilt beautifully.

A graceful wreath is the focal point of this stunning small quilt. Tulips, buds, and flowers are combined in a pleasing arrangement with corner appliqué blocks radiating out from the center wreath along with ribbon star blocks that make a bold statement as they frame the central wreath. Next comes a checkerboard border that completes the look. Karel chose civil war reproduction fabrics because the tiny prints lend themselves well to small applique pieces. The hand quilting is expertly done.

Bluebird parents perch close to a full nest on a cherry branch in the central block of this new Dresden design by Karel. Wool appliqué birds, and leaves are combined with traditional appliqué for a pleasing result. Small 9-patch blocks have been used along with a triple border sashing to frame the four Dresden blocks surrounding the birds. Beautiful hand quilting is shown off in the surrounding tan triangles of the quilt.

The scrappy Star sofa throw quilt features scrappy, wonky stars with tiny 9-patches in each center. Using a mixture of light and dark neutral background squares are used for the background of each star. The workmanship in the precise piecing along with the beautiful hand quilting creates a very special quilt. A special floral print set against the blue background is the perfect frame and pulls out all the colors in the quilt.
