Patchwork Quilts | Amish Country Quilts

It is hard to imagine that patchwork quilts could be so wondrously varied in design and coloring as they are here in Lancaster. While some traditional Amish designs are made to be reproductions of 18th and 19th Century quilts, most quilts are created with goal of being more lovely than what was made before. Consequently there are many differing and unique renditions of even the most traditional patchwork patterns.

Many of the quilts shown here are marked indicating that they are “available now” for shipment –we are usually able to ship quilts so marked no later than the next business day. Other quilts shown have been sold, but often we are able to find a very similar well-made quilt that can be shipped quickly. Alternatively we can arrange for a similar quilt to be custom made.

Take your time looking through our galleries, there is a lot to see. We try to show respects for the quilts and the quilters by properly showing them.

This quilt has an abundance of fine hand quilting and an adorable border design. Another quilt by C Jean Horst, Lancaster’s well respected quilt designer. The special sunflower quilting designs make this a cottage garden full of flowers. The abundance of hand quilting is done with 8 hand stitches per inch and the nine patch blocks are done with 100% cotton prints in multi soft shades on a 100% muslin background. Each block is one inch square. The backing of the quilt is also 100% muslin and has a corner tag to document the name of the quilt and the maker and the date. It is a gorgeous show of hand quilting and has an exceptionally adorable border.

The concept of retro means reminiscent of things past which is so fitting with the pinwheels reminding us all of the windmills of the past generation. Here is a gentle reminder of our heritage again in a beautiful locally made hand quilted quilt. Here C Jean Horst used the fabric collections of beautiful grays and whites in 100% cottons! This quilt is a versatile size in that it can be used as a queen with shams or it can be turned the 113 width to completely cover the king bed with a 18″ drop and the quilt going up to the headboard without a pillow tuck over the pillows. The shams will fit 20 x 36 ” pillows.

It is exceptionally heavily hand quilted with feathers – large and small, and also a charming and beautiful heavily quilted border design. The cream background, even though it is a tiny tone on tone 100% quilter’s cotton print, shows up all the stitches and designs so nicely. While being a traditional patchwork pattern, Jean has transformed it into an heirloom quality quilt due to the exceptional yardage of hand quilting displayed.
