Patchwork Quilts | Amish Country Quilts

It is hard to imagine that patchwork quilts could be so wondrously varied in design and coloring as they are here in Lancaster. While some traditional Amish designs are made to be reproductions of 18th and 19th Century quilts, most quilts are created with goal of being more lovely than what was made before. Consequently there are many differing and unique renditions of even the most traditional patchwork patterns.

Many of the quilts shown here are marked indicating that they are “available now” for shipment –we are usually able to ship quilts so marked no later than the next business day. Other quilts shown have been sold, but often we are able to find a very similar well-made quilt that can be shipped quickly. Alternatively we can arrange for a similar quilt to be custom made.

Included with the quilt are two matching pillow shams in the every popular gray white fabric combination. The concept of retro means reminiscent of things past which is so fitting with the pinwheels reminding us all of the windmills of the past generation. Here is a gentle reminder of our heritage again in a beautiful locally made hand quilted quilt. Here C Jean Horst used the fabric collections of beautiful grays and whites in 100% cottons! This quilt is a versatile size in that it can be used as a queen with shams or it can be turned the 113 width to completely cover the king bed with a 18″ drop and the quilt going up to the headboard without a pillow tuck over the pillows. The shams will fit 20 x 36 ” pillows.

It is exceptionally heavily hand quilted with feathers – large and small, and also a charming and beautiful heavily quilted border design. The cream background, even though it is a tiny tone on tone 100% quilter’s cotton print, shows up all the stitches and designs so nicely. While being a traditional patchwork pattern, Jean has transformed it into an heirloom quality quilt due to the exceptional yardage of hand quilting displayed.

Amish colors, all 100 % cotton, nine-patch in nine-patch block, and an abundance of interesting quilting coupled with excellent piecework and fine stitching. Made by an Lancaster County Amish women who quilted ‘Lanc, PA’ in the bottom corner of the quilt. Border and pillow folds are Navy, corners are Burgundy, quilted squares in center of quilt are ‘paper bag’ (tan) and sash is dark green. All the quilting is done in navy so it shows up beautifully on the paper bag centers. The back of the quilt is covered with a solid navy 100% cotton fabric. The quilting density is good, averaging about 100 linear inches of stitching per square foot. The hand quilting is wonderful with 8 tiny stitches per inch.
