Wall Hangings and Crib Quilts

These small quilts were selected to please demanding quilt lovers. Showing a diversity of patterns, styles, and colors, these quilts are all beautifully designed and very well constructed. Note how carefully each has been pieced and hand quilted. These quilts are the best of the best Lancaster has to offer — they are far superior to the small quilts made as souvenirs for tourists.

While small compared to a bed quilt, these wall hangings are still large in comparison with most paintings or prints found in homes. With their dramatic use of color and texture they can become the visual focal point of any room in your home. Consider lighting them as you would a fine painting.

As with our larger quilts, these quilts are made one at a time in Amish and Mennonite homes — they are not mass produced. We only have one of each to sell.

The small quilts listed below are available for immediate sale and when ordered will be shipped, almost always, no later than the next business day. This page is updated when new quilts are listed or quilts sold.

  • Zebra corners – Stack and Whack

    What is a Stack and Whack??   It’s so fun to do….Here is a quilt making style that uses one fabric and layers the same exact repeat on top of each other 8 times.  The triangles are cut through a floral fabric to make 8 exact pieces which are sewn together for one patch.  As you cut across the fabric for more patches you will be getting many different areas of a large print fabric which turns out to be a surprise every time!  Here this design has a fun zebra print on the binding as well as added to the corners of the patches at various places.  The hand quilting is done well and is 7 stitches per inch.  The backing is a soft blue and yellow print shows on the one photo.  Don’t forget to double click on each thumbnail to bring them up to full size and see the uniqueness of each block.  This throw even has a sleeve for hanging already in place so that’s a great possibility.

    The Wheels on the bus song inspired this fun children’s quilt which features a sunny, yellow bus at it’s center.  Whimsical cars and a pick up truck, done in cheerful colors with embroidered details appear to be driving around the bus.  The pattern feature bright colored squares which frame the appliqué blocks as well.  The border fabric echos the cars and buses as the children on bikes and jumping ropes ride around the border.  This playful quilt is ready to become a child’s beloved snuggle blanket right now.  The workmanship  is beautifully done and the hand quilting enhances the design.     Five Dresden plates set on point are featured in this fine, traditional quilt. The Dresden plates are machine pieced and then hand appliqué to the background squares.  The are surrounded by Karel’s signature triple borders and corner squares as sashing.  Cross-hatching has been hand quilted on the set in triangles to create the  small diamond design.  Many different fabrics were used to create the petals on each plate which adds lots of interest. A charming floral fabric was chosen  for the border on this traditional quilt.  Look at all the beautiful quilting and superb appliqué in this one! A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature patch have been included on the back of the quilt.
