Wall Hangings and Crib Quilts

These small quilts were selected to please demanding quilt lovers. Showing a diversity of patterns, styles, and colors, these quilts are all beautifully designed and very well constructed. Note how carefully each has been pieced and hand quilted. These quilts are the best of the best Lancaster has to offer — they are far superior to the small quilts made as souvenirs for tourists.

While small compared to a bed quilt, these wall hangings are still large in comparison with most paintings or prints found in homes. With their dramatic use of color and texture they can become the visual focal point of any room in your home. Consider lighting them as you would a fine painting.

As with our larger quilts, these quilts are made one at a time in Amish and Mennonite homes — they are not mass produced. We only have one of each to sell.

The whimsical pumpkin fabric in the border was a great choice to finish it all off and the hand quilting and appliqué in this quilt are just beautiful! Patchwork Autumn

Patchwork Autumn is an original design by Karel and was created out of her love for the fall season. Half square triangles and hour glass blocks add to it’s charm as well. Late summer is Karel’s favorite time of the year and was the inspiration for this fun small quilt. A sunflower bud and sunflower have been created using the Dresden plate pattern, an appliquéd wool center with french knots and prairie points were added on the flower. A bumble bee flies happily around the flower as orange pumpkins sit underneath. The black crow perched on the pumpkin is another detail using wool appliqué. A combination of machine pieced churn dash and 9-patches blocks were chosen to complete this quilt. The hand appliqué and quilting beautifully enhance the design as well. Do you love pinwheels? Here’s a great original design featuring pinwheels that use 8 different fabrics in them! Both the pinwheel and cornerstone blocks are set on point and the diamonds frame each pinwheel creating a great secondary design. Karel used a lighter background for the pinwheels and a small circle print for the other blocks to help the pinwheels stand apart. Sweet little tulips sit in each corner while flowers fill in the triangle blocks around the edge. The quality of the hand appliqué and quilting are easy to observe in this charming small quilt and the floral border is the prefect finish. Star Love

Star flowers and berries seem to spring out of a red heart in the center block of Karel’s original design called Star Love. Her signature triple border and corner squares nicely frame the block. The star block called “Sarah’s Choice” and a variation on log cabin blocks flank each side of the star and berries border. The design was inspired by a memory of the colorful, long row of Zinnias that her Grandma planted in her garden each summer. It features 5 Dresden plates in 3 different sizes with wool for each of their centers. Special attention to detail went into the hand embroidery in each flower with handmade stems and leaves in green plaids and florals. Buds, a butterfly and a bumble bee play among friendship stars in the neutral background blocks and a tan floral border was chosen to frame the quilt perfectly and contrasts with the multi colored inner border.
