Small Quilts

This sweet hedgehog quilt is just waiting to find a good home, either hanging on the wall or as a treasured blanket for the special little person in your life. The border fabric sets the color theme in blues and browns which are then echoed in coordinating prints. The patchwork pattern seems to circle around the central hedgehog critter. Red, White, and blues in charming paisleys, stripes and floral fabrics are used for the log cabin blocks in this lovely small quilt. The placement of light and darks are artfully arranged to create the perfect frame for the hand-appliquéd blocks. Tulips and buds along with flowers have been used, note the outside flower centers have been fussy cut so a small star is in the circle. The fabric with clusters of flowers on a Swiss dot background fabric completes the look.

The Dresden plate pattern is a beloved favorite among quilt lovers and it’s a great way to use up those scraps that quilters have too many of. Karel chose a basket of flowers and used a combination of wool appliqué with traditional appliqué in the central quilt block. The triple border with small 9-patches in each of the corners highlights each block beautifully. There’s plenty of hand-quilting to be seen in the surrounding background triangles. The floral border fabric completes the look of this wonderful quilt.

Karel developed a love of quilting and flowers from her maternal Grandmother and both are reflected in this new design. Five blocks set on point each feature a different type of wild flower. The flowers and leaves are done in wool appliqué and have hand embroidery details added. Each background square is a different reproduction fabric for added interest. The triple sashing surrounds the blocks with a square in square block as the cornerstones. The hand wool appliqué and quilting complete this quilt perfectly. The Wheels on the Bus song is what inspired this fun children’s quilt which features a sunny yellow bus in the center. Whimsical cars and a pick up truck, done in cheerful colors with embroidered details surround the bus. The pattern feature bright colored patchwork which frame the hand appliquéd blocks. The border fabric echos the cars and bus as the children on bikes and jumping rope ride around the border. This playful quilt is ready to become a child’s beloved snuggle blanket right now. A Christmas wreath with a cute little cardinal are the center of this new quilt design. Look closely at all the hand embroidered pine needles tucked behind holly and berries in the wreath. Ribbon star blocks surround the wreath along with corner poinsettia and pinecone blocks. A checkerboard inner border highlights the center wreath design. The border fabric echos the motifs in the quilt set on a black background making this an elegant quilt to be enjoyed all winter long. This is one of Karel’s most popular designs, the trumpet flower, and it continues to be a customer favorite. Winding trumpet flowers, vines and leaves are surrounded by small log cabin blocks and primitive stars in each of the 4 corners. Multi colored fabrics have been used in warm, country colors to give it a “scrappy” look. Karel enjoys incorporating many different fabric prints in her designs along with hand quilting and hand appliqué that are beautifully done. A classic color palette was chosen for this charming, original Starberry design. Using pieced, neutral log cabin blocks for the center background was a creative choice. Stars and berries with a center flower are beautifully appliquéd along with precise piecing done on the corner log cabin and 54-40 or fight star blocks. Hand quilted diamonds called cross-hatching has been used on the background triangles that surround the center. A perky red cardinal is at the center of this log cabin Christmas quilt.
