People from all over the world come to Lancaster Pennsylvania to purchase quilts made by Amish and Mennonite women. These Amish quilts with roots in many cultures are viewed today as quintessentially American. Most first time visitors are taken aback by the great variety of design and coloring, as well as the intricacy of quilts on display.
Not so obvious is the special way these quilts are produced. At a time when practically every textile product sold in America is made in Asia, these Amish quilts are made one at a time in people’s American homes. What’s more, these quilts are made using just the technology that was in common use 150 years ago. Because of the extensive handwork most women only take part in producing a couple of quilts each year.

Bargello quilts have been a joy to arrange for years because the blending of fabrics. This quilt has 20 fabrics from light to dark making a stunning arrangement and show of color. This quilt pattern referred to as Bargello Argyle is beautifully designed by Eileen Wright in her book More Twist-and-Turn Bargello Quilts by Martingale. It is reminiscent of the sweaters that were hand knitted in years gone by. It is a perfectly symmetrical quilt that has great eye appeal. $1,395Here is a beautiful Queen size Trip Around the World quilt that will remind you of the pastel colors of spring budding trees and flowers. This quilt is great to decorate around with lots of color options. This Colorsplash quilt is using 24 fabrics, cut and sewn so each block is 1 1/2″ square. What a beautiful combination of 24 different soft pastel fabrics selected by C Jean Horst. Sewn by a local Amish woman — note the careful patchwork piecing and the fine quilting. A 100% beautiful pale tan/yellow cotton covers the back of the quilt shown on one of the photos. The quilting density is more than adequate, averaging about 75 linear inches of stitching per square foot. The stitching is very good with about 8 stitches per inch. The back corner tag has the documentation recorded of the name of the pattern, the maker, the fabric content, the area, and a note about made in America. This is a beauty! A high quality quilt. -

Truly elegant! The Calla Garden is the most recent appliqué design from C Jean Horst designs. Here is a garden of Calla lilies, surrounded with tulips and 3 dimensional rosebuds as well as bunches of delicious looking grapes. This pattern was designed for a customer who loved the Petal Showcase and asked that I use calla lilies in her design. We loved her idea too and now offer it as a regular pattern. The quilt has 8 stitches per inch and is well quilted with feather designs and cross hatching sections. All hand appliquéd! So special! There is a special decorative braid used to accent the border and the central motif.

Here is a new fresh quilt rearranged into pinwheels similar to the quilt called Fresh from the book “Simply Retro”. Included with the quilt are two king size pillow shams. The concept of retro means reminiscent of things past which is so fitting with the pinwheels reminding us all of the windmills of the past generation. The patchwork pieces are tiny — smaller than a standard US postage stamp! This quilt was made here in Lancaster by an Amish woman. The quilt is symmetrical and may be used sideways on a king size bed. -

This is a brand new quilt arranged by C Jean Horst that is so exquisite with its hundreds of yards of hand quilting thread. It is exceptionally heavily hand quilted with feathers – large and small, and also a charming and beautiful heavily quilted border design. The cream background, even though it is a tiny tone on tone 100% quilter’s cotton print, shows up all the stitches and designs so nicely. While being a traditional patchwork pattern, Jean has transformed it into an heirloom quality quilt due to the exceptional yardage of hand quilting displayed.
