Wooly sheep and saw tooth stars have been combined with a fun block called “this and that” in this original small quilt. The wool sheep are appliquéd onto the background using the button hole stitch which is all done by hand. The graceful willow tree in the center block has been created using lots of hand embroidery stitches as a sheep stands underneath holding a sweet little heart. Fabric prints were carefully selected and include stripes and small florals. Karel loves combining touches of wool fabrics along with cottons in this special quilt along with fine hand-quilting. A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature patch are included on the back of the quilt.

Her signature triple border and corner squares nicely frame the center block. The traditional pieced star block is called Sarah’s choice and a variation of the log cabin block flank each side of the star and berries border. Karel enjoys mixing many different fabrics in her quilts to give them a “scrappy” look and this quilt is a great example of that. (photo shows the king size backing which is blue) The quilting density is excellent. The hand quilting is great at 8 stitches per inch. The back corner tag documents the name of the quilt, the maker and fabric content as well as a comment about being made in the USA. Fabulous and outstanding in color! A brilliant combination!

This Cathedral Window is a gorgeous work of art done in all sage greens on white and a timeless heirloom! It captures the inspiration of a beautiful church window and allows us to relive our past grandmother’s quilts as this is a very old pattern. This is not the same as a traditional quilt as it has no batting- with so many layers of folded fabric, batting is not necessary. A very difficult and time consuming design! The backing is also white and that is part of the folded process. This Cathedral Windows are VERY well sewn by hand. . The quilt is finished beautifully with triangles on the edges. This is an interesting log cabin pattern that has a burgundy diamond on the tip of the last row of each of the log cabin blocks which then makes this into a star pattern. Quilt making is a clever assortment of shapes that fit into each other when there is a skilled quilt piecer at work. We are delighted with this pattern with it’s sharp coloring and practical fabrics. They are 100% cotton prints and the backing is a gray tone on tone print shown on the one photo print. The stitches are 8 stitcher per inch which makes a great quilt with exceptional workmanship. Good sized king quilt.
