Karel chose to use civil war reproduction fabrics because the tiny prints lend themselves so well to the small appliqué pieces. The variety of fabrics includes stripes, florals and geometrics that add extra interest to the quilt. As you can see from the border, the hand-quilting is beautiful as well. Well made in Lancaster by an Amish woman in her home who quilted her initials in the bottom corner of the quilt. The back of the quilt is covered with a black 100% cotton solid fabric. Arching flowers and leaves wind around the center block with corner log cabin blocks completing this pattern. Pinwheels and checkerboards are another pleasing element in the borders of this original design by Karel. Fabrics were carefully selected in a nice variety of prints that play nicely with the precise appliqué and tiny quilting stitches. A hanging sleeve and Karel’s signature tag are included on the back of the quilt.
