People from all over the world come to Lancaster Pennsylvania to purchase quilts made by Amish and Mennonite women. These Amish quilts with roots in many cultures are viewed today as quintessentially American. Most first time visitors are taken aback by the great variety of design and coloring, as well as the intricacy of quilts on display.
Not so obvious is the special way these quilts are produced. At a time when practically every textile product sold in America is made in Asia, these Amish quilts are made one at a time in people’s American homes. What’s more, these quilts are made using just the technology that was in common use 150 years ago. Because of the extensive handwork most women only take part in producing a couple of quilts each year.

Another new original C Jean Horst design. The reality of life being a journey seemed to come together when a friend’s husband passed away at an early age with cancer. The watercolor wall quilt – the Journey, was designed at that time. And now we have the full size quilts!! Available in queen and king size in this pattern done on a background of my favored Bargello Wave pattern design. This is a beauty of 24 100% quality cotton batiks used for the quilt and more bright batiks added to hand appliqué the butterflies onto the quilt top. It is a spectacular coming together of precise piecing, hand applique, and hand quilting. The Dutchmans Puzzle blocks are made from flying-geese units that are sewn together in pairs. The points rotate around the blocks, creating lots of motion in the quilt top. Since each pair of flying-geese units requires only one light and one dark fabric, the quilt provides an opportunity to use various amounts of many interesting 100% cotton fabrics. It makes a visually magnificent and colorful but quaint looking quilt. Beautiful and vintage!! A new pattern for us to make. Love it !

This is a brand new quilt pattern for C Jean Horst and an imaculate display of hand quilting includes several types of feathers. Especially beautiful feather border design (see corner photo) dancing around the entire perimeter of the quilt. The bright fabrics on white are perfect for a perky look and will blend with an assortment of colors in your room. The fabrics are all 100 % quilter’s cotton.

This quilt is a traditional Log Cabin quilt block done with a unique fussy cut centers. It is made entirely from popular designer Kaffe Fassett’s line of fabrics – both top and backing of the quilt. The fabrics are 100% cotton but are softer than any other manufacturer of quilters cottons that we know of. We also enjoyed making matching pillow shams to work along with the log cabin patch quilt. This colorful quilt will go with a varied number of color schemes and is bright and creates a carefree look. The white pillow is not included but creates another look if you add more of your own pillows. A note about fussy cut — each square for the center of each block was cut one at a time by centering a clear plexiglass template on the fabric to see through to the flower – thus centering the unique flower in the middle of each block. Gorgeous.

Calla Garden King Bed Size
$1,540Truly elegant! The newest design from C Jean Horst designs. Here is a garden of Calla lilies, surrounded with tulips and 3 dimensional rosebuds as well as bunches of delicious looking grapes. This pattern was designed for a customer who loved the Petal Showcase and asked that I use calla lilies in her design. We loved her idea too and now offer it with our regular patterns. The quilt has 8 stitches per inch and is well quilted with feather designs and cross hatching sections. All hand appliquéd!
